Task 1

When setting up your standalone computer system you will need the basics which are the monitor, Keyboard, mouse, power cables and the VGA cable.

This video shows how to connect the monitor, mouse and keyboard to the desktop PC using the VGA and power cables. Below you will also find a step by step guide on how to set up the basics.

1. Connect the monitor to the system by using the VGA cable. The monitor also needs a power cable which is to be plugged into both the monitor and a mains socket.
2. Next you need to plug a separate power cable into your desktop PC and into the mains socket.
3. Next you have to connect your mouse and keyboard into the USB slots, it is better to plug them into the slots at the back as this can tidy up your space.

This is a video to show you how to install RAM into your desktop PC.

This is a video on how to set up speakers to your system.

Task 2

When setting up your standalone computer system you may need to install your own hardware such as the CD/DVD Drive and sound card, Below are 2 quick videos that will show the basics of how this is done.

CD/DVD Drive

Sound card

You may also need to install an operating system such as windows 7, I am going to go through how you would install windows 7 by using a USB device.

First of all you will need windows 7 installed on your memory stick.
After that you will need to go into your BIOS and set your PC to boot up from the USB device. This is done by opening the BIOS and going into the Boot Settings.

After you have changed that you will need to restart your PC with the USB device plugged in. Then when your PC has booted up this screen should appear.

When this has appeared you need to choose you language and keyboard settings.

After you have done this this screen will be the next to pop up.

When this appears make sure everything is correct then click install now.
After you have clicked install now this screen will be the next to pop up.

This is asking you where you would like to install windows, so will click where you want windows be installed and that is where windows will be installed.

The next screen you should see is this.

This is just to tell what is being installed and how far through the installation you are.

The next screen that will pop up is this screen, and this is just asking you insert your name and the name if your computer.

After this they will ask what settings you would like to install, i clicked use recommended settings as these are recommended and have the important updates and more.

The next screen that will pop up is screen that asks you to insert the time and date and this screen looks like this.

After this all you need to do is wait for the setup to finish and then your PC will restart with windows 7 fully installed. be sure that you have removed the USB before the PC restarts otherwise your PC will boot up from the USB device again.
When Using windows 7 drivers will be automatically installed when they are needed, for example if you plugged your phone into your PC this would appear at the bottom right of your monitor.

When you see this all you have to do is wait until it has successfully been installed, or you cab also click on it and another window will pop to see the progress of the installation, then when it has been installed you will see this screen.
